| Preadolescence refers to a period of life before puberty. This age group is children on average between the ages of 1 and 11. Each child is different and some mature quicker than others. These are important ages where your child is growing and experiencing something new in life every day. When working with Children on strength and conditioning they need to be monitored very closely. You do not need to have your children lifting weights to gain strength at this early age. Start slow and build core strength. I like to use children who play Flag Football. These children are between the ages of 5 and 8. Think about it these children are almost still baby’s but we have them out there running, blocking, hitting, falling and even sometimes tackling. So let’s look at what we can do to build core basic strength. Start your children on basic exercises: BASIC CORE EXERCISES |
![]() | Sit ups Upper ABS - Keep their hands across their chests not behind their neck
![]() | Leg lifts Lower ABS - Lay on back and raise their legs 6 inches off the ground
![]() | Push Ups Have them stay on their knee’s and do push ups
![]() | Squats Have the children squat down and stand up several times for leg strength
![]() | Flexibility Keep your children flexible with stretching exercises
![]() | RUN Have your children outside playing and running to build lung capacity
| Let your children grow. Children do not need weights to build strength and conditioning at this early age. The above are basic core exercises that everyone should do before even looking into starting a weightlifting routine. Once this core strength is created than you can start looking into starting a weightlifting routine. |
